  1. Remembrance of Things Past by Marcel Proust
  2. The Waves by Virginia Wolf
  3. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway
  4. Maldoror by Isadore Ducasse
  5. Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne
  6. The Subterraneans by Jack Kerouac
  7. Naked Lunch by William Burroughs
  8. The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut
  9. If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino
  10. The History of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell

What a strange list, eh? From Lowbrow to Highbrow, without even a proper segue. In no particular order, either. Well, what do you expect from an auto-didactic omnivorous reader of everything I can get my hands on? I'm not even sure that this is my list: Can't somebody help me out and remind me of some far better books that I've momentarily forgotten? Come back in a week and I might change one or two of them. But the top three are pretty unassailable, and will probably always be up there, at least for many years to come. Especially Proust.
